How to Make Mont Kywe Thae (The Easiest Way)
Hello! Today, I will share the recipe for a traditional Burmese snack called Mont Kywe Thae. It's a very delicious treat that pairs perfectly with seasonal coconut. For those who want to make it at home, this is a very easy method and does not use any lye water, so there's no need to worry. Since it is made using corn starch, people living abroad can also easily make it.
Ingredients (Proportions)
- Corn Starch: 25 grams (about 2 tablespoons)
- Milk: 250 ml (about 1/4 of a 1-liter water bottle)
- Palm Jaggery Syrup (thick): 50 ml (or 50 grams)
- Salt: A pinch (for flavor)
Step-by-Step Instructions
-
Mixing the Ingredients:
- In a clean pot for cooking the dessert, add the corn starch, milk, palm jaggery syrup, and salt. Stir well until everything is evenly mixed. It is important to stir until there are no lumps.
-
Cooking:
- Place the pot on a stove over medium heat.
- From the moment you place it on the stove, you must stir continuously until the mixture thickens. Be careful not to use high heat. If the heat is too high, the mixture might stick to the bottom and get cooked unevenly.
-
Thickening the Mixture:
- After about 3 minutes, you will see the mixture start to thicken.
- Continue stirring for another 3-4 minutes, and the mixture will become smoother and reach the desired thick consistency.
-
Setting the Mixture:
- Once the mixture is cooked, lightly grease the cup (or tray) you will use for setting. Greasing it will prevent the mixture from sticking and make it easy to cut.
- Then, pour the hot mixture into the greased cup.
-
Cooling:
- Let the mixture cool completely at room temperature.
- If you cool it in the non-freezing section of the refrigerator, the texture will be smoother and better.
-
Slicing and Serving:
- After the mixture has completely set, slice it into your desired block sizes.
- Then, grate some tender coconut and sprinkle it on top to enjoy the delicious treat!
This method is very easy, so you can easily make it at home. We invite you to try making Mont Kywe Thae yourself and enjoy the taste.
